Many of the national sections of the Association of European Journalists celebrated World Press Freedom Day 2008, on May 3 (the official date) or another day.
Celia Hampton, AEJ Int. Vice-President and General Secretary of AEJ UK, made a great collage of the reports and pictures the sections send to her. Click on www.aej-uk.org/wpfd-eur.htm for a complete view.

It is bizarre that the UN, which celebrates World Press Freedom Day (May 3) every year, blocks Taiwanese journalists from doing their work. The UN undermines the right of journalists to gather information and news. Taiwanese journalists should be given accreditation like other journalists covering the Assembly of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva, May 19- 24, according a statement of AEJ Belgium on World Press Freedom Day Click here for complete text of statement

Each month AZIR, the Romanian AEJ section, organises a meeting with journalism students from the University of Bucharest. Each time a well known journalist debates with young people. March 13, the guest was MIHAI CREANGA, former dissident who founded during the dictatorship an illegal newspaper and who was investigated by the Securitate. The revolutio n saved him and his colleagues.
