<title>European Commission urges Hungary to amend media law in line with landmark court ruling</title>
<description>A spokesman for European Commission Vice-President Neelie Kroes, the Commissioner for Digital Agenda (Information Society and Media), has called on Hungary to amend its much-criticised media laws to conform with a recent ruling by the country’s Constitutional Court. The Commission also criticised Hungary’s handling of the issue of awarding radio licences, stressing the need for transparency and competition.</description>

<title>Koos van Houdt (NL) coordinator of new AEJ priority: Euregional Journalism</title>
<description>In Bucharest (November 12), the General Assembly of the AEJ appointed Koos van Houdt (Netherlands) as official coordinator of the AEJ project Euregional Journalism. During the meeting Koos referred that the decision to make ‘Euregional Journalism’ a priority for the AEJ is based on the experience with the theme for the AEJ Maastricht Congress in 2009 and the 2011 cross border project by the French and Belgian AEJ sections and the International AEJ in the Euregio Lille-Kortrijk: the ‘Interreg Eurometropole Project’.</description>

<description>Thirty-eight more Turkish journalists were detained on Tuesday in a new wave of police operations against The Union of Kurdish Communities (KCK), the umbrella organization that also includes the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK),  Thousands of journalists and their supporters took to the streets in Istanbul and Ankara, protesting the detention of their colleagues, who are due to appear in court very soon.</description>

<title>Final Report of the International Press Freedom Mission to Turkey</title>
<description>An international delegation of media and human rights organisations in Turkey from November 22 to 24 exposed the alarming scale of the suppression of free and independent media in Turkey. The mission was led by the European Federation of Journalists and included two senior representatives of the AEJ. Its final report has been sent to leading personalities in the European Union, the Council of Europe and the OSCE, They are called on to act decisively to make Turkey free more than 60 journalists now jailed for their reporting and comply with Turkey’s solemn obligations to respect press freedom.</description>
